We have a new tape out, you can
buy it on our Bandcamp page.
This tape is a split with Regosphere. We first met Regosphere while on tour back in 2007, when he was called Suburbia Melting. We played a show with him in Eugene, and have kept up over the years, trading tapes and whatnot. Eventually we decided to do this split. Our half is some pretty warped acoustic stuff, which is pretty mellow when compared to Regosphere's harsher analog noise on the other side, but it is a nice juxtaposition and we think it makes for a good listen.

OLDER NEWS
=======================================================================================
We have been working on an art zine called Journal Of Graphic Noise, it features artwork by all the band members plus a playable 5x7 lathe cut floppy. The audio for the record was obtained by running the zine's art pages through a computer program that translates images into sound. The record (like the artwork) is fucking harsh.
You can preview a few pages from the zine
on our bandcamp page,
we will also be doing a free in-store at Dissonant Plane on September 11th at 6pm, there is a facebook event for it if you like using facebook. You should go to the free in-store, even if you don't like using facebook. that in-store already happened, it was cool and you missed it, unless you where there, if so, thank's for coming.
This nice fellow over at
Auxiliary Out looked at and listened to the zine and posted some thoughts on it, questions were raised, questions we didn't anticipate people asking, so I thought we shoud engage in some inter webpage communication. If you clicked over from that page with questions, I hope we can give you some answers. Here is Jason's explanation of how we made the music on the record:
a reverse spectrogram takes an image and breaks it into component frequencies.
function signal = imagetosignal(path, format)
% Read in the image and make it symmetric.
image = imread(path, format);
image = [image; flipud(image)];
[row, column] = size(image);
signal = [];
% Take the ifft of each column of pixels and piece together the results.
for i = 1 : column
spectrogramWindow = image(:, i);
signalWindow = real(ifft(spectrogramWindow));
signal = [signal; signalWindow];
end
end
yeah, that didn't make any sense to me either.... here is some exposition:
A regular spectrogram is a visual representation of a sound, you see really boring looking ones when your are doing music stuff, like this kind of stuff:

some smart people even thought of ways to make music that intentionally displayes a secret spetrogram picture:
so we basically tried to do the opposite of that, start with the picture and see what the sound would be for that picture. It is definitely a strange feeling to release some music that you didnt make intentionally, we had the idea for the zine and we made the pictures intentionally but the sound of the pictures we input is what ended up on the record. I am sort or worried that the record for the next issue will sound too similar to the record in the first issue, we will have to see how it goes, we don't have a shortage of artwork or ideas for the zine so you will definitely will be seeing some more issues although the format may change a bit...
